Dear Transport group and colleagues, trust you are well?
You will no doubt have heard that Nottingham has been given approval to start charging for workplace parking.
You will also be aware we did a piece of work, as a committee, that unequivocally opposed the 'initiative'
In light of the Nottingham approval, we have re-worked our Suffolk Chamber Work Place Parking Levy position paper. This is attached.Workplace_Parking_Levy_7_August_09_(2).doc
We will once again be reminding those decision makers in Suffolk LA's, who no doubt will be on a watching brief re Nottingham, that the Suffolk business community is opposed to such an initiative. We will ensure that as a transport committee this is one of the 'thematic' issues we champion.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO LOWESTOFT TO LONDON RAIL LINKS your views are sought please?
Please see attached from National Express re proposed changes to services to London.
To cut to the chase, the proposal most affecting this sub region is to remove the through services to London (you will need to change at Ipswich). This will be compensated for by an improved hourly service to Ipswich BUT ONLY IF THE BECCLES LOOP GOES AHEAD. If that doesn't happen we are worse off.
This Chamber needs to make representations here and Paul Moss at WDC has agreed to collate responses if we could get something to him by the end of August 2009. Please email me and I will then send a complete chamber response to WDC on behalf of businesses
The attachements below reflects the issues in full

Tue 11/08/2009 16:01 SUFFOLK CHAMBER LOBBYING to date:
Dear Transport committee members and colleagues,
As you know we will be responding National Expresses consultation on service improvements that they are planning as a result of the extra trains they will be providing over the next 2-3 years.
We have spent a little time this afternoon looking through the specific consultation papers regarding the improved services to be introduced.
In short, when you read it, the response is ‘what’s not to like?’. Overall there will be more trains and more carriages on some routes all the time, and some routes at peak times.
The essence is to inject new trains onto London to Stansted and London to Cambridge services and then to re-allocate displaced rolling stock elsewhere.
For Suffolk's community this will mean there will be more trains, more carriages but not new rolling stock.
They are also outlining new timetabling issues.
It is for this reason in particular we draw your attention to, and a summary is attached of the propsed changes.
What we are trying to gauge is, ‘’does anyone have any specific comment to make about particular routes / timetables from individual stations.’’
Turn around is tight I am afraid, I’d need thoughts by Tuesday 18th, so we can pull our response together and send by the end of that week.
See attachements below

Draft REGIONAL ECONOMIC STRTAEGY for the East of England - consultation report published
As you are aware, at the end of last year we went out to consultation on the draft regional economic strategy for the East of England 2008-31. Over the 12-week consultation we received 231 formal responses to the consultation, some 36 per cent more than for the consultation on the existing RES in 2004. This represents a real commitment from partners to the future prosperity of the region, for which we are very grateful.
Over the last three months we have been carefully processing all of the responses and undertaking further analysis where required, and I am writing to inform you that the report on the consultation has now been published on the EEDA website at http://www.eeda.org.uk/resreview/.
