The role of the Champions is to bring together relevant partners into a team to coordinate delivery of their respective Action Plans, each team will be known as a ‘SECTOR ACTION TEAM’.

The first meeting of the champions took place on 14th May 2008 at Lowestoft College. The purpose of the meeting was to set out the way forward in achieving the projects and initiatives contained in the prospectus.

Champions have been informed that funding identified in the Action Plans is indicative and it would be their role to bring together potential funding partners to help source and align funding with the actions listed. Similarly a target time frame is identified for each action, which will need assessment for practical delivery.

. The WEP realizes that the Prospectus Action plans may have to be revised to ensure targets are realistic. This will be one of the first jobs for the champions and their respective Sector Action Teams. Potential funding partners should be aware of the prospectus and hopefully be able to link the desired outcomes of the prospectus to their own action plans and strategies to enable them to fund/deliver the prospectus. As a starting point for consideration Paul Moss has put a spreadsheet together; it sorts information by plan, partner, timeframe etc.

The projects identified will not necessarily be the projects that are taken forward, if the ‘Sector Action Team feel another project would meet the objectives set out in the Prospectus then that project should be taken forward on the advice/agreement of the Champion.

Champions were given a monitoring form that they would be asked to complete on a quarterly basis to help inform the WEP of progress. The information will also assist the facilitator in reporting back to the LSP and monitoring LAA indicators.

Champions agreed that they would try to hold an initial meeting with their funding partners before the next meeting of the Waveney Economic Partnership ‘Board’ on 2nd July 2008.

SUGGESTED NEXT STEPS

1) Bring together relevant partners into your Sector Action Team (SAT)
2) Brief SAT on the Prospectus
3) Review Action plan and ensure targets are realistic, revise if necessary and inform WEP Facilitator of any changes.
4) Establish levels of buy in, officer support, funding etc from the SAT
5) Contact External Funding officer at WDC for advice on other potential funds
6) Confirm to WEP which initiatives will be pursued first.
7) Start project management and delivery!
8) Complete SAT Monitoring form supplied to all Champions when called for by WEP Facilitator.
