Coast presents 'Artmosphere' 28th January 2010 Photo
The first COAST- Connecting Working Women event of 2010, was held at the Hotel Victoria. Our hosts for the lunch were Denes High School. Situated in the heart of Lowestoft, Denes has 800+ students and caters for ages 13-18. They specialise in Business and Enterprise and have many young budding entrepreneurs. Already the students are putting their skills into action, and have formed quite a few small businesses on site.

‘Artmosphere’ is one of the newest. The students design and produce their own artwork influenced by the Dene’s house style – creative fusion. Art ranging from paintings, framed photographs, statues and even 3D works to suit a variety of tastes, are available to hire or sell to leading business who want something that little bit extra special to enhance their surroundings.

Denes teachers Jenny Chilvers and Sally Erb introduced their talented and very committed students James, Andrew and Nathan. They work together as ‘Artmosphere’, but also have their own and very different roles as the Managing Director, Finance Manager and Marketing Manager. The idea was conceived after realising that all the art that was produced at the school, was just being thrown away at the end of each year. It was decided that they should put it to good use instead of just letting all their hard work go to waste. Along with help from graphic designer Karen Delanie they got together and created their logo, and so ‘Artmosphere’ was born.

“Just one painting can drastically change the view”

The three young men surrounded by various paintings, did a short power-point presentation, and explained that all off the art was inspired by Lowestoft and especially the town’s wind turbine. For a nominal amount of money per month, you could have a unique piece of artwork on display in your workplace. With all the proceeds going back into the Denes High School Art Department to fund new equipment.

The students of Denes believe their business is innovative and new to our local community…
I think they might just be right!
